Instrument consisted of a Fish tank, hydrophone, metal pipes, balloons, tubes, and computer processing via Wire
How do you recreate the feeling of hearing underwater without actually being underwater? I developed an instrument using a fishtank and a hydrophone to help capture that feeling. Live computer processing added reverb and delay to make the sound more expansive. The audience was invited to play using tubes, straws, and metal pipes hung partially submerged. A great underwater animal squeal can be made by cyphoning the air out of a balloon underwater in short bursts. Think bubble machine and sonar pings.
Looking Forward
Thanks to Holly Faurot, Sarah Paulson, Nick Didkovsky, and Meredith Ekstedt
