We've been invited to play the 2010 Bali Arts Festival - but we need donations to make it work!New York City's Gamelan Dharma Swara, under the direction of master Balinese artists, studies and performs traditional works and develops new compositions for Balinese gamelan ensemble. We have been invited by Madé Mankgku Pastika, Governor of Bali, to perform at the 2010 Bali Arts Festivalhead to head with other Balinese groups on the Ardha Chandra stage for an audience of thousands of Balinese. This is the first time a non-Balinese group has been asked to perform in this format. Leading up to our performance at the Bali Arts Festival we will conduct a "mini-tour" of the island, performing in the traditional meeting houses (banjar) of several villages including: Ubud, Jagaraga, Tenganan, Kerambitan and Mengwitani. We are already hard at work preparing our repertoire, which must be performed at the highest possible standards in front of the most discerning audience. We’ll be featuring pieces such as: - Kebyar Legong, an epic and crucial piece which bridges the gap between the elegant court dance styles of Legong and the tempestuous Kebyar style found in pieces like Teruna Jaya. - The stately Tabuh Pisan Bangun Anyar, considered a classic is a modernized setting for music you would typically find in a temple courtyard setting during a festival. - A Kreasi Baru (New Work) that brings an awareness of contemporary gamelan practices to an exciting new piece. - A new performance piece, still in development, that features collaborative elements to tell a new story related to the theme of the 2010 Bali Arts Festival. In order to make this tour a reality we need your help!We are asking for the support of our audience, fans and friends to help us raise the funds we need to get to Bali, and allow us to tour and perform while we are there. Please visit our donations page and make a tax-deductible donation! Terima Kasih (Thanks!), Gamelan Dharma Swara << Back |
"Adventurous listeners...should plan on getting tickets the minute they go onsale, considering how quickly both this past weekend’s concerts sold out."
